Personality Psychology is one of the branches of psychology concerned with studying the concept of personality. This field focuses on researching and highlighting personal and individual differences that result from psychological forces among individuals. This branch includes several areas of interest, such as:
- Creating a comprehensive understanding of personality and its major psychological processes.
- Explaining psychological and personality differences.
- Understanding human nature and the common characteristics shared among individuals.
Personality is considered a dynamic and organized set of characteristics possessed by an individual, which significantly influences their environment, emotions, habits, and behaviors in various situations. The word “personality” originates from the Latin word “Persona,” meaning “mask.” Personality also refers to patterns of thinking, social adaptations, emotions, and behaviors that continuously affect an individual’s expectations, values, and perceptions. In addition, personality can predict how individuals react to other people, problems, and stressful situations.
Components of Human Personality
According to psychology, an individual’s personality is formed from a combination of habits, traditions, emotions, tendencies, thoughts, intellect, readiness, and personal traits. These components together shape the personality of a normal human being. It is also believed that five major factors are capable of describing a strong and leading personality. Personality Divisions and Areas
Human personality consists of several aspects, including:
- The emotional aspect: everything related to behavior, emotions, ethics, values, and all non-rational elements.
- The cognitive and intellectual aspect: the part concerned with acquiring knowledge, sciences, experiences, and information.
- The physical or motor aspect: the part related to the body and the human self in general. However, some believe that personality cannot be separated into divisions because it is an integrated and complete unit.
