A family counselor must possess several qualities, including: ethical requirements (such as acceptance, respect, confidentiality of information, prioritizing the interest of the entire family, determination of destiny, acceptance of the concept of service, cultural awareness, and competence...), cognitive requirements (through theoretical preparation and practical training), and personal requirements (through the degree of awareness, perception, understanding, interpretation, and behavior). These were some of the fundamentals of a family counselor.
The Family Counseling Process
This process is carried out through proper handling of the family system, then searching for treatment for that system by formulating and defining problems clearly, setting some plans, and involving the family in them to determine the period between all interviews each week; confidentiality is extremely important in this process.
The Counselor's Role in the Family Counseling Process
The role of the family counselor includes proper preparation for the interview, encouraging the family to attend and commit to all interviews, studying the interactions and communication methods of that family, directing and encouraging both spouses, analyzing and solving the problem by enabling the family to deal efficiently with problems they may face. The counselor works on developing a climate of trust between them and all family members; of course, they should not start solving any problem except after studying all its dimensions surrounding the family, because a misunderstanding of the problem may be a problem in itself.
